My tent mate Njuguna woke me up at 6:00 am to go catch the sunrise but being more of a sunset person I decided to snooze his wakeup call to around 6:15 am. “Wake up Yvonne, sunrise means a new chance and day to start all over again,” He said. “And sunset means time to sleep and rest let the sun rise come get me.” I replied laughingly still in my blankets though. “Girl, you don’t want to miss a photo with the sun in the background, do you?” He asked. “No way! I have to slay in it!” I replied as I unzipped the tent. He won!
Sunrise was beautiful, breakfast served and after showers, we left for Tom Mboya’s mausoleum where we learnt of Tom Mboya’s history, Rusinga Island lodge visit and shoots on its manicured lawns stretching to lake victoria’s edge was one thrilling activity; the poses and the jumpies and the selfies, back to the camping site for lunch, swimming and boat rides in the afternoon, sunset watching, dinner, bonfire and before I caught sleep it was morning.
