Heard the slogan “sihami kilimani mums”? That is soo me. Why should I leave after finding a Rusinga island trip posted there? Why should I leave when I make sales there? Why should I leave when I have purchased good stuff from the sellers in it? Social media usage? It all depends on what you choose to do with it
2 months ago I landed on this attractive poster of a Madaraka weekend trip to rusinga and takawiri island courtesy of Keitan safaris in one of the Kilimani mums group, one I couldn’t scroll down without taking a screenshot of. I had always wanted to explore counties past narok county i.e. kisii, bomet and homabay counties, and there was a perfect chance, a chance I was not going to waste despite my brokenness that month. When I say broke, I mean a hole between me and my wallet and a second one inside the wallet itself. I had just resigned work and the side hustles were not doing so well but remember when you want something the universe conspires to help you achieve it and again serve him and you will never luck. Doors opened and the next post I saw on keitan safaris facebook page read “truck 1 full, truck 2 a few slots to go. This had me visit their page to learn about the payment conditions i.e. must I make full payment at a go or Can I pay a deposit and have a sit reserved and if so how much deposit? Guess what I found? They only needed Ksh 2000 /usd 20(even cheaper in dollars..giggles) for one to reserve a sit which was 1/5th of the full amount and the rest you would pay in installments or pay it all a few days to the trip. I paid the deposit and later on cleared the balance. Travel on a budget made easier!
Friday 1st of June we a group of about 52 left Nairobi early in the morning for Rusinga Island with a few stopovers having the first one at Narok town and the others at a relative time intervals in various towns. During the morning hours, most people were asleep, on their phones and tablets not to mention those with their novels. Glad no one had a laptop! Why would you have one anyway? Maybe to transfer photos? Maybe just maybe.
This trend did not last long; where there are young people, food and drinks communication is bound to happen at some point. (Notice I did not specify the types of drinks taken…wink wink.) The drive was quite long especially for those of us who board our upcountry matatus at the nyamakima and Tearoom bus stops in Nairobi. Evening came and went and just when the night was starting we arrived at our destination; safe, sound but not very sober. We pitched our tents, served dinner bonfire and later went to bed. Food was sweet and the salsa dance training that night was lit courtesy of Dennis.
